Heartland Women's Group provides obstetric services to thousands of women in the south-central Kansas region. Whether you are a first-time mom or you have done this before, we are here to partner with you from your initial visit through delivery and the postpartum exam. Our group is unique in that the majority of the time your physician will be the one attending your delivery.
There are times when pregnancies do not go as planned. In those instances, we are prepared to help you through a variety of conditions, such as gestational diabetes, preterm labor, ectopic pregnancies, placenta previa and multiple gestations. In some cases, we are able to treat these concerns in our office. For more complex conditions, we consult with maternal-fetal physicians who have specialized training in high-risk obstetrics.
Many women who want a child struggle with becoming pregnant. Preparing for pregnancy not only increases your chance of achieving a pregnancy but may also decrease the risk of complications to both mother and fetus. Our physicians can help couples adjust their lifestyles, health habits and nutrition and provide advice on which prenatal vitamins to take in order to optimize the chances of becoming pregnant. We can also perform a wide array of screenings to rule out any underlying problems.
Ablations (used to treat women with heavy or irregular periods) and sterilization procedures have traditionally been performed in a hospital operating room or surgery center. With new advances in technology, our physicians now perform these in our office. In as little as 2-3 hours, you can be back at home without the complications of general anesthesia. This procedure is not appropriate for everyone so please consult your physician to see if it is right for you.
Our group offers several services that you will not find in many other groups. We have a certified ultrasound technician in our office who can provide scans throughout the course of your pregnancy. This means you can schedule sonograms at your convenience, often the same day you see your physician. Our ultrasound room can accommodate several people, so feel free to bring your family with you. If your visit requires lab work, the blood can be drawn the day of your appointment.
Heartland Women's Group provides annual well-woman exams and other gynecologic services for patients of all ages, including adolescents and post-menopausal women. We treat abnormal PAP-smear conditions, performing most procedures in our office. Our providers specialize in cancer prevention and the management of menopausal and post-menopausal conditions.
With so many different forms of birth control available today, deciding which method is best for you can be quite an undertaking. In addition to providing oral contraceptives or injections (Depo-Provera), our physicians are adept at placing IUD's (Mirena), Implanon or, if necessary, performing a sterilization procedure.
Our physicians have training in a wide variety of gynecologic surgical procedures. Hysterectomy (removal of the uterus), oophorectomy (removal of the ovary/ovaries) and sterilization (tubal ligations and ablations) are some of the more common procedures we perform. Some sterilization procedures can be performed in our office, which means a quicker recovery and no hospital stay! Surgeries that have to be performed in a hospital or surgery center setting are usually scheduled weeks in advance.
DaVinci robotic surgery is a minimally invasive alternative to both open surgery and laparoscopy. Robotic surgery typically decreases the length of stay in the hospital. It is not appropriate for all patients, so please discuss this option with your doctor. DaVinci surgery is performed at Wesley Medical Center, Kansas Medical Center and Via Christi on East Harry.
Many women suffer from pelvic organ prolapse, a condition where the cervix, uterus, bladder, rectum, or some combination of these are bulging out through the vagina. Some cases are very mild, and can be treated with physical therapy and others require surgery. For surgical cases, our physicians utilize the latest technology, the DaVinci robot, to treat this condition.
